The team “Projects and Mission” is responsible for optical missions for Earth surface observation at the Remote Sensing Technology Institute. It focuses on spaceborne systems of all sizes but also covers ground- and airborne aspects, especially for projects not solely covered by the institute. Beside activities for the ongoing missions in their production or operation phases, it is also conducting or contributing to feasibility studies for DLR, ESA or other partners. These studies cover a wide variety of mission types, e.g. missions that consider not only the solar reflective range, but also the emissive thermal range as well as multi- and hyperspectral missions.
Currently, establishing the EnMAP ground segment is one of the major activities of the team. This comprises project management and realizing parts of the on-ground processing chain as well as the responsibility for the HySpex processing chain, which serves as simulator for DLR’s high-resolution imaging spectroscopy satellite remote sensing missions DESIS and EnMAP. Another major activity is the project management of the Copernicus Data and Exploitation Platform – Deutschland (CODE-DE) for DLR. In the past, the team was also responsible for parts of the processors and validation of the Sentinel-2 ground prototype processors and an ALOS processor, both for ESA.
