Claudia Roth visits the ZKI

On December 20th, 2018, Mrs Claudia Roth, Vice-President of the German Bundestag, visited the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen. Special focus was set by the member of the Bundestag on tasks of the Center for Satellite based Crisis Information (ZKI), a user service of the Earth Observation Center (EOC).

Fire disaster in California – DLR supports with FireBIRD data

A, for the season, unusual drought lead to devastating forest fires in California. So far several hundred thousand people were evacuated und dozen deaths were registered. Butte County, located in Northern California, is especially affected.

Second ZKI-DE User Training 2018

BKG und DLR informieren zum ZKI-DE-Fernerkundungsservice für Bundesbehörden

Das Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie (BKG) und das Zentrum für satellitengestützte Kriseninformation (ZKI) des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR) organisieren am 18. und 19. September 2018 bereits zum zweiten Mal in diesem Jahr eine Informationsveranstaltung zum Thema „Der ZKI-DE-Fernerkundungsservice für die Bundesbehörden“ in der Hauptdienststelle des BKG in Frankfurt am Main.

Bei Katastrophen den Überblick behalten

Seit vielen Jahren arbeiten die Kollegen des ZKI und des DLR Forschungsprojektes VABENE++ erfolgreich zusammen, um im Krisen- und Katastrophenfall aktuelle, flugzeuggestützte Lageinformationen bereitstellen zu können. Die Methoden zur Bereitstellung in naher Echtzeit werden regelmäßig in gemeinsamen Übungen getestet und bei Ereignissen, wie z.B. beim Evangelischen Kirchentag am 28. Mai 2017 in der Lutherstadt Wittenberg, erprobt.

Training of BKG colleagues on ZKI-DE service

Since 2013, the ZKI-DE Service has enabled Federal Authorities to procure and analyse current and past remote sensing data at short notice, from which ZKI-specific and user-defined specialist information can be generated. Under the current framework agreement (2017-2020) between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and DLR, the Federal Office of Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is to learn the various operational tasks of the ZKI-DE Service Elements in order to be able to make the ZKI-DE Service available to the Federal Authorities in its entirety from 2021.

Training on the ZKI-DE Earth Observation Service for Federal Authorities

Since 2013, the ZKI-DE Service has enabled Federal Authorities to acquire and analyze current and past remote sensing data at short notice, from which ZKI-specific and user-defined information can be generated. The current framework agreement (2017-2020) between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and DLR provides, among other things, training users in the application of remote sensing technology and informing them about technological innovations.

DLR supports the opening of the new ICE route with an aerial view of the situation


08 January 2018
The new ICE high-speed line between Munich and Berlin was officially opened on 8 December 2017 with two special trains. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) supported the Federal Police in securing the event. Scientists from the Institute for Optical Sensor Systems in Berlin recorded the entire route with an aerial camera system specially developed by DLR and made the high-resolution images available to the mission control centres as a situation picture.
