Experimental Methods Departement

The Experimental Methods department of the Remote Sensing Technology Institute develops, tests and operates systems for remote sensing in the optical and infrared spectral ranges. With the main emphases on spectrometry, calibration/validation of optical systems, and sensor operation, the following applications are covered:

  • Spectroscopic methods and measurement systems for remote sensing from aerial and spaceborne platforms
  • Expansion and improvement of the spectroscopic database for atmospheric trace gases
  • Methodologies for security-relevant functions, especially infrared signature modelling
  • Methodologies to characterise and calibrate passive optical sensors, with a focus on hyperspectral technology
  • Optimisation of sensor calibration and customized measurement setups, including help in developing methodologies for the remote sensing of water bodies
  • Providing and operating optical remote sensing and reference measurement systems (for laboratory, field, UAV and aircraft use)

The department is composed of four teams:
