Team: Spectrometry

Infrared signature of a flying wing aircraft near the Brocken peak (Harz mountains, Germany).
.
Laboratory with high-resolution Fourier-transform spectrometer and infrastructure for measuring spectroscopic data from atmospheric trace gases

One focus of the team’s systems competence is Fourier-transform spectrometry (remote measurement methodologies and laboratory spectroscopy). The spectral range covered extends from UV to far infrared (wavelengths 250 nm - 100 µm).

The second focus is on developing, employing, assessing and validating signature models in infrared for 3D-simulations of aircraft and rockets in their operational environment.

The team contributes to atmosphere and environmental research and military/security-relevant issues in the following specialized fields:

  • Expanding the database of atmospheric trace gases
  • Calibrating/validating spectroscopic remote sensing systems
  • Modelling and simulating the infrared signature of scenes containing artificial and natural objects
