The Data Processing and Development team combines geoscience data and professional level visualization capabilities. We process satellite data, simulation data, measurements, and time series from earth observation and other fields. In addition to scientific image processing we rely on tools which we have programmed ourselves. We provide the data foundation for the work carried out by the Science Communication and Visualization department and operate the technical infrastructure for the production process. This includes an elaborate render farm with the associated server architecture, backup options and a software environment, as well as an interactive real-time 3D system. Besides data preprocessing the team develops operational visualization models for displaying data at the push of a button. Such modules are particularly valuable for researchers and other users who need to be able to rapidly interpret large quantities of data visually. We participate in such major EOC developments as UKIS, which is an environment and crisis information system, and the Timeline Project.
Our expertise is also used by other DLR entities. For example, the team creates virtual portrayals of the real world from GIS and geodata for the vehicle simulator at DLR in Braunschweig.
