The business area "Security" is assigned to all aircraft and their structural components that are not classified as classic large components – wings and fuselage – of modern airliners. This naturally applies to military aircraft, but also to the entire range of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), as well as special structural components of civil aircraft with special requirements (for example structures for electrically driven vehicles and vertical take-off capability or multifunctional structural aspects such as laminar wings, radomes, de-/anti-icing and structurally integrated antennas). Research in this business area is currently focused on cost-efficient manufacturing technologies, design and materials for future fighter aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, and ranges from structural design to prototype construction. Special electromagnetic requirements such as the embedding of antennas in the composite structure or low radar reflections require technologies, methods and materials that are developed exclusively in this business area.
