The DLR Flight Facility Braunschweig is a major test site for aerodynamic research, in-flight simulation and testing of flight management, air traffic management and remote sensing systems. It operates 5 airplanes and 2 helicopters which have been modified and instrumented for their special flight test tasks. Main customers are DLR institutes, external research institutes, civil and military authorities, aircraft industry and testpilot schools.
The list of services comprises
Of course we have the necessary personnel for these services as there are aircraft mechanics, avionic maintenance specialists, class 1, 2 and 3 inspectors, development engineers, design responsible engineers, logistic specialists, test pilots and flight test engineers.
All facilities are in a security area with restricted access. There are 2 heatable hangars (20x30m and 29x55m) as well as mechanic, electric and avionic shops, a room for parachute packing and 250 m2 stockrooms. All necessary ground service and test equipment is available.
As an LBA-certified “Luftfahrttechnischer Betrieb” (Approved Aeronautical Workshop) and as a part of the DLR “Entwicklungsbetrieb” (Approved Design Organisation) the Flight Facility is monitored closely by the LBA and by DLR Quality Management thus guaranteeing a high level of safety and efficiency.
