The product generation processes are controlled with the help of DLR’s "Data Information and Management System" (DIMS). DIMS does not only manage large heterogeneous geo-databases from different missions, but also develops and configures complex data processing chains for value adding, ordering future acquisitions, product subscriptions, near-real-time delivery, and online data access.
In the Firebird project a processor suite is being developed and integrated in processing chains that can process newly acquired data in near-real-time as well as systematically bulk reprocess entire data collections with modified algorithms.
The science data products generated with this system are provided to DLR and external scientists via ftp or EOWEB and systematically stored for long-term archiving in the German Satellite Data Archive (D-SDA). This archive provides all the functions necessary for administering large, heterogeneous data sets for long time periods.
