The Firebird ground segment (data reception and archiving) handles the reception, processing and distribution of payload data for the TET satellite (in continuation of the OOV project) and for BIROS. At least two S/X-band antenna systems are on call for this purpose. The possibility of uplinking during mission operations is maintained by keeping all "housekeeping data" and quality reports readily available.
The necessary ground segment processors for systematically processing the primary payload data are designed, implemented, and integrated into DIMS (Data Information and Management System). A suitable processing environment is being created. If fundamental changes to algorithms are required, systematic reprocessing will be possible. In keeping with the project’s data policy, mission data are systematically archived and made accessible to internal and external users. Appropriate interfaces are being developed for this purpose. All new systems components and changes to operational systems undergo the usual ITVV (Integration and Technical Verification and Validation) processes. The S-band downlink to the Neustrelitz station with its limited data rate constrains timely and effective fire monitoring so the use of a ground station network is planned for optional implementation.
