Greener Air Traffic Operations: Final Event of the GreAT Project

DLR ex­pands Na­tion­al Ex­per­i­men­tal Test Cen­ter for Un­manned Air­craft Sys­tems with U-space re­al-life lab­o­ra­to­ry


24.01. | DLR will set up a U-space real-life laboratory at DLR's Cochstedt site with all relevant U-space services from January 2023. The lab will test the interaction between traditional air traffic control, U-space airspace and innovative unmanned applications. A U-space virtualisation environment is being developed to transfer findings to other geographical areas.

De­con­flic­tion of un­crewed and crewed air­craft test­ed at Magde­burg-Cochst­edt Air­port


30.11. | In the future, a highly automated system will be required for the operation of a large number of uncrewed aerial vehicles, which will complement classic air traffic control. The flight tests in Cochstedt simulated an air taxi scenario for the connection between the city centre and the major airports within two metropolitan regions.

29.11. | Im Rahmen der maritimen Sicherheitsforschung, die das DLR seit mittlerweile zehn Jahren betreibt, spielen luftgestützte Einsätze auf See eine wichtige Rolle: Mit Helikoptern inspizieren Einsatzkräfte Offshore-Windkraftanlagen und erstellen aktuelle Lagebilder zum Beispiel nach Schiffsunfällen.

Urban air mobility flight tests conducted in model city


22.11. | Researchers of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) successfully conducted a first flight test campaign in a newly erected model city. The campaign is part of DLR’s research project HorizonUAM and took place at the National Experimental Test Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Cochstedt, Germany, in October and November 2022.
