Controller Assistance


The key activity of the department is the development of methods and procedures to support controllers in the monitoring, planning and guidance of air and ground traffic, particularly at busy airports.

Pilot Assistance


The department of pilot assistance is conducting research on methods for the cognitive automatization of on-board flight guidance functions. Its aim is the integral support of the aircrews flight guidance during all phases of a flight, "gate-to-gate".

Unmanned Aircraft Systems


For several years, the Institute has been researching concepts and technologies which enable the integration of UAS into controlled airspace. This work is pooled in the “Unmanned Aircraft Systems" department.

ATM-Simulation


The ATM-Simulation department supports the professional research and development by analysing and evaluating new concepts and technologies for air traffic management in realistic environments. For that, an integrated complex of onboard and ground simulators is used.

Human Factors


The Human Factors department focuses on the design of advanced human-machine interfaces for aviation operators such as pilots and air traffic controllers. Design solutions are based on principles of human-centred automation and tested in simulations as well as in field trials.

Management Services and AT-One


Management Services and AT-One performs the central administrative and strategic tasks of the Institute. By pooling organizational and methodical tasks, the Institute's goals can be pursued in a coordinated approach, while allowing the scientists to better focus on their core tasks.
