ATRA Base Measurement System

ATRA (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft)

ATRA Base Measurement System Operator Station

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) operates the research aircraft Airbus A320 ATRA (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft). The base measurement system is the central test facility within ATRA. It is available to all experiments, providing:

  • Flight data acquisition from aircraft base avionics
  • Additional sensors to enhance and extend base sensor systems, for instance accurate position measurement via SBAS Global Navigation Satellite System
  • Basic operation support for acquisition and storage of signals
  • Visualization of the flight parameters as well as aircraft system data for the flight test engineer
  • Configurable displays for the experimenters
  • Online data evaluation
  • Configurable for the acquisition of additional sensor data
  • Services for external experiment systems:
o Distribution of current measurement data
    o Distribution of a GPS-based time code
o Recording of measurement data from external sources
    o Power supply
  • Connection to the intercom system

The department operates, maintains and modifies the base measurement system according to customers’ requests. The main tasks are:

  • Support of experiment preparation
  • Configuration of the measurement system
  • Design of experiment specific displays
  • Synchronisation with experimental measurement systems
  • Sensor calibration
  • Data evaluation and archiving
