EMC measurements with absorbing films in ATR

In the area of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) activities are performed concerning qualification and research aspects.

Qualification procedures ensure that, for every modification to research aircraft, there are no relevant effects on the flight safety. The qualification is performed by means of:

  • Structured system analysis with definition of measures to be taken
  • Emission measurements of airborne equipment in our in-house  EMC chamber
  • Measurements of the interference level at the aircraft antennas and wiring
  • Interaction tests with aircraft systems

The application of ever-changing technologies in aircraft requires a constant development of new EMC solution approaches. The aim is to ensure that all systems operate without any interference. This stimulates research regarding:

  • Interference propagation in aircraft (e.g. by means of antennas placed inside the cabin)
  • Time-efficient and cost-effective EMC characterization to minimize qualification efforts
  • Development of measures to protect against interferences (e.g. by means of absorbing films)
