Electronic Flight Control System-Rig (EFCS-Rig)

The EFCS-Rig is used for evaluation of components of flight control systems as well as the flight control chain - from pilot input through the on-board computer to the rudder actuating systems including the corresponding transmission media.

By coupling a cockpit simulation environment with actuator test rigs, the interactions between different systems can be examined holistically, e.g. for evaluating new reconfiguration concepts or new approaches for an integrated and holistic Vehicle Health and Usage Monitoring.

Test rig modules and technical constraints::

1. Cockpitsimulation

• engineering simulator cockpit of an aircraft
• aircraft behavior adoptable (flight mechanical model); currently running: A320
• system functions of A320 (ECAM, FMS, Flight Warning System)
• 3-channel visual system
• 5-channel sound system
   

2. Actuator test rig for hydraulic servo-actuators

• hydraulic power supply with 3 independent circuits
• pressure up to 5000psi, medium: Skydrol
• automatic control of pressure, flow
• dynamic load simulation
   

3. Components test rig for electro-mechanical actuators (EMA)

• Projects: Actuation2015, JTI SFWA
• Integration of damaged bearings and spindles
• Testing of new sensor concepts for condition monitoring of EMA
• dynamic load simulation with hydraulic actuator

4. Actuator test rig for electro-mechanical actuators (EMA)

• Project: OMAHA
• Model validation of EMA (with and without damage)
• Validation of condition monitoring concepts (sensors, algorithms)
• Testing of new sensor concepts for condition monitoring of EMA

5. System test rig for Aileron actuation with electromechanical actuators (EMA)

• Project: EMA
• Application: A320 aileron
• Redundant actuation with EMA
• Dynamic load simulation with hydraulic actuators
• Simulation of the physical properties of the aileron
• Test rig under construction, completion: end of 2015
