In a new article, researches from the DLR-institute of Air Transport and Airport Research assess the potential impact of a Brexit scenario on the air transport sector in Germany and Europe. They find that a Brexit could have notable impact on air traffic in Germany and Europe with approximately a quarter of all inner-European flights being potentially affected and 14% likely to become impossible under new post-Brexit legal arrangements. These endangered connections are mainly served by Ryanair and easyJet. In case the two low cost carriers restructured their businesses, the European market’s supply structure could change distinctly. On the demand side (regardless of supply side and exchange rate effects) the forecasted economic downturn would lead to a decrease in German air traffi c growth by 0.1 %-points.
