In December 2018, experts from the DLR-Institute for Air Transport and Airport Research provided a two-day training on ICAO’s new CORSIA scheme (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation ) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The audience included some 30 representatives of the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Unitary Enterprise Tajikairnavigation, Dushanbe International Airport and the airlines Somon Air and Tajik Air.
CORSIA, is an emission mitigation approach for the global airline industry, developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and due to be applied from 2021. Under CORSIA, most additional emissions from international air transport growth will be offset from the year 2021 onwards. To ensure a consistent implementation of CORSIA in all ICAO states, ICAO launched the ACT-CORSIA Buddy Partnership program in which technical experts provided by donor States will work together with the CORSIA focal points of recipient States to provide on-site training, and to closely follow-up on the preparation and implementation of the recipient States’ CORSIA monitoring, reporting and verification systems.
In addition, DLR experts also provided training sessions in Istanbul to representatives from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, FYROM, Moldova, Serbia and Turkey. Both missions were financially supported by the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt).
