Since several years now, the air transport industry is intensifying its efforts to decrease the environmental impact of air transport. The increasing number of environmental reports by airlines and airports is an important indicator for this development.
Nevertheless, these companies do not always exclusively strive for neutral information as they are also guided by marketing interests. This makes the distinction between objective reporting and PR elements difficult. In order to evaluate environmental reports in the air transport sector in the face of such difficulties, DLR has developed a criteria catalogue that allows to assess the quality and credibility of these reports on the basis of benchmarks. A sample of 29 airlines was examined for this study
