Systems Analysis and Evolution

This department concentrates on the development, analysis and validation of technology scenarios of the next and future generations of satellite navigation systems. The key competences of this department are in the areas of systems and requirements engineering, project management and the simulation of overall system and service performance. The work spectrum ranges from evaluating theoretic concepts to participating in satellite missions that will aid the verification and validation of hardware components in space.

The core tasks within this Galileo competence centre are:

• Analysis of the ground and space segment as well as user requirements of satellite navigation systems
• Evaluation and comparison of various options for future satellite navigation systems
• Definition and execution of Galileo testing and validation missions
• Concept development of potential new Galileo services
• Reflection on security aspects, especially in relation to Public Regulated Service (PRS)
• Validation of optical technologies on the International Space Station (COMPASSO)
• Review of clock technologies
• Concept development for future systems such as the Kepler concept
• Development of evolution scenarios  for the ground segment
• Support of other departments in the analysis of future application scenarios and description of operational concepts
