The Galileo Competence Center (GCC) is part of the 13 scientific facilities and institutes located on the DLR site at Oberpfaffenhofen. It is the DLR site with the largest number of employees and one of the largest research centres in Germany. It is located approximately 30 km west of Munich and only 2.5 km east of the Wesslinger See, the smallest of the five lakes that belong to the famous Bavarian Fünfseenland.
In July 2020, the hitherto small group of employees was able to leave the seven temporary rooms in DLR’s old Robotics Institute and move into the recently completed, elegant DLR-GfR building as intermediate tenants. This will probably serve as the GCC's headquarters until the GCC's own building is built (currently in planning).
The entire first floor of this four-storey building has been allocated to the Galileo Competence Center. With 28 offices (including secretarial and management areas) there is space for around 100 employees. Two large kitchens with extensive equipment offer plenty of room to enjoy coffee breaks with colleagues.
Two separate, so-called Think Tanks as creative areas and two large conference rooms are all equipped with modern technology to facilitate internal and external communications.
The large, comfortable foyer of the building includes a tabletop football game that awakens play instincts in both the younger and older colleagues at the Competence Center.
