The wide range of our activities provides us with a detailed insight into, and a command of, the properties, special features and also challenges of the entire Galileo system, from the users, via the ground segment, all the way to the satellites. On the basis of an in-depth analysis of the existing GNS systems, especially the European Galileo system, in connection with the use of highly developed simulation tools and the possibility to extensively test and validate new technologies and concepts right through to (pre-) operational use, we want to answer the following questions:
Thanks to its close connection to relevant DLR institutes and facilities, the Galileo Competence Center can draw on sound scientific and technical expertise in the areas of Galileo, EGNOS and space engineering. This includes years of experience in generating a robust system time, in time synchronization, in reliable and precise orbit determination, in dealing with the effects of signal propagation (multi-path effects, atmospheric effects, etc.), in signal design, and ultimately in the implementation of different user group requirements, including those with high security requirements, such as aviation, rail, shipping or disaster control.
