The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites Working Group on Calibration and Validation, SAR Subgroup, Synthetic Aperture Radar Workshop 2008 (CEOS SAR 2008) is to be held at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, on 27th – 28th November 2008. The Workshop will be hosted by the Microwaves and Radar Institute and will provide an open forum for the presentation and discussion of current and future issues related to the calibration and validation of space borne SAR sensors and products.
Over the last years this event developed to an intimate expert workshop for the space SAR community. One highlight in the previous meetings, for example, was the remarkable on-going stability of calibrated data products from existing SAR sensors, enabling lifecycles well beyond those originally envisioned. This drew out important discussions on how to maintain these very high standards into the next exciting period of development of new sensors.
Since last year these next generation SAR systems (COSMO-Skymed, TerraSAR-X, and RADARSAT-2) are in operation and it is planned to focus dedicated sessions on the performance and calibration of these sensors. Beyond the results from the new systems we also encouraged contributions on the long-term performance of running missions as well as on emerging sensor oriented applications. The programme will be completed by innovative SAR techniques and an outlook on future concepts.
The event will be held at DLR’s Oberpfaffenhofen site near Munich in Southern Germany. Earlier in this last week of November the next TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X Science Team Meeting will be held at the same premises.
