Airborne SAR Systems

The Airborne SAR Systems group is responsible for the development of the cutting-edge airborne SAR systems of the Institute and related electronic components.

The focus is on the design and development of high-frequency radar frontends operating at wavelengths between P and Ka band and with large relative bandwidth and output power, advanced radar control sub-systems and multichannel digital radar data recording units with very high memory bandwidth. This includes the development of embedded and general purpose software components needed for the operation of the radar.

The group also supports the airworthiness certification of all developed devices. The developed radar systems are integrated and tested, calibrated and maintained by the Airborne SAR Systems group. During test flights and scientific flight campaigns, members of the group are responsible for the system operation.
