Validation model of an Ultra Fast On-Board Processor for meshed packet networks
The main goal of the ULISS project is to prepare the future payloads for Multimedia missions in Ka Band, and more precisely, to fullfill two main objectives which are
to demonstrate the feasibility of an Ultra Fast Packet Switch (100 spotbeams, > 20GHz of switched bands) to validate its performances in a DVB-RCS environment. A flexible routing is also proposed between the uplink access and the downlink access (i.e. packet switching) , and an multi-giga bit link technology will be adopted to process the data stream that is converging to centralised unit.
DLR contributions
this ESA ARTES funded project aims at the concept and set-up of a demonstrator for a new method for Ultra Fast On-Board Switching (transparent switching of data, headers are used to configure switching matrix). The contributions of the DLR are concept of a DVB-S/RCS reference system, validation of the parameters of the reference system (number of spotbeams and carriers, burst lengths, switch architecture, number of ports, etc.).
