The project provides a basis for the study and the design of the SI-SAP interface, conceived as an external interface between Satellite Independent (SI) and Satellite Dependent (SD) layers implemented in different nodes.
The work will consist in reviewing the current ETSI BSM documents detailing the SI-SAP interface functionalities and the specification of the related primitives with respect to QoS management, address resolution and multicast. These concepts will be re-worked in order to meet the design of an SI-SAP interface working as a physical (external) interface connecting the SI with the SD layers of DVB-RCS/S2 satellite terminals and gateway. In particular, extension and improvement of the current SI-SAP interface specification will be carried out to complete the missing parts related to multicast management.
According to the external SI-SAP interface design, the protocol specification will be carried out, by developing the protocol format needed to transport the SI-SAP primitives between the involved ends and detailing the use of the considered primitives. The extension of SI-SAP primitives and the development of the external SI-SAP specification will be fed to the ETSI BSM standardisation group for the publication of the specification.
