The purpose of this activity is primarily to provide full specifications to terminal manufacturers for the development of an “IST” (Interactive Satellite Terminal) compatible with the “EIBS” (Eutelsat Interactive Broadcast System). In particular this activity focuses on the link layer ( i.e. all above the PHY layer and up to the provision of IP connectivity) for the return link based on suitable adaptation of ETSI TS 102 721 (S-MIM). The IST shall be used as a DTH-like installation, so as to provide:

• Reception of (legacy) DVB-S/S2 TV channels in Ku-band
• Low-bitrate two-way IP connection (Ku-band downlink, Ka or C-band uplink)
