The main objective of this Action is to increase the capacity of communication systems within a specified transmission bandwidth with minimum available transmitter power, bearing in mind the cost effectiveness and the practical implementability of the system. This is a serious requirement for communication systems calling for higher data rates, more mobility and, at the same time, a less hazardous electromagnetic environment. To achieve this goal, existing and innovative communication techniques/systems will be investigated from the viewpoint of the bandwidth and the power efficiency.
The resulting benefits will be the provision of higher data rates and more mobility to the users, longer battery life in mobile terminals, hence the provision of cheaper telecommunication services. In addition, one may expect reduced EMC problems with other electronic systems and significant reduction in hazardous radiation effects to biological systems. The outcome of the Action is believed to provide valuable contribution to the literature and the technology in the related fields.
