Project TeaM is a DLR internal project concerned with the development of technologies for autonomous Moon missions with a rover. The project combines competences of different DLR institutes aiming at the development of a planetary exploration system. In particular, the Institute for Communications and Navigation is concerned with the development of suitable RF and optical transmission schemes (subproject “communication”).
In subproject “communication” measurements, developments, and experimental demonstrations will be conducted regarding high rate optical data transmission between moon (lander) and earth (ground station) and regarding RF communication between rover, lander, and ground station. Special transmission schemes and communication technologies have to be developed for autonomous moon missions, e.g. to cope with the special communications architecture (rover – lander - ground station) or with the limited electrical power and small size of the rover.
