Swarm Localization and Attitude Estimation based on Multi-Mode Antennas
For the exploration of unknown and inaccessible terrain, it is common to use unmanned platforms. In this situation it is beneficial to use a swarm system instead of single platforms to achieve higher robustness, range and exploration rate. In order to allow autonomous operation of the swarm in environments where no satellite navigation system is available, the agents have to be able to determine their location in a cooperative manner. The goal of this project is the development of such methods, exploiting the specific characteristics of Multi-Mode antennas. These Multi-Mode antennas have multiple ports, where each port allows the excitation of a characteristic mode. Each mode has a specific antenna pattern. This allows the estimation of the attitude in addition to the location.
