Research port Rostock

The Rostock Research Port was established on the basis of an initiative by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and regional universities, companies and research institutions.

Since then, new systems and procedures for safe and efficient ship navigation have been tested there under the most realistic conditions possible - through the establishment and mostly operational operation of various maritime test environments - as well as the development and validation of services and assistance systems based on them in the areas of ship navigation and traffic management. In close partnership with the University of Rostock, Wismar University of Applied Sciences and the Schifffahrtsinstitut Warnemünde e.V., our institute makes important contributions to the testing of procedures for highly accurate and reliable positioning and navigation in ports and at sea, as well as for situational awareness and decision support. In addition, the institute has been acting as the external spokesperson for the Rostock Research Port since 2013.
