Standardization of Optical Satellite Downlinks

Optical Data Downlinks from Earth Observation Satellites will in future allow an increase of downlink capacity in orders of magnitude. Global coordination of this technology is required to allow inter-agency interoperability with different missions and ground stations. The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation (IKN) is leading the CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) standardization of Low Complexity Optical Space Links (SLS-OPT-LC group).
See Presentations and Further Reading of IKN’s  OLEODL-Workshop 10th November 2016.
