Focusing on safety-of-live applications, the European geostationary navigation overlay system (EGNOS) offers augmentation service for the satellite navigation system GPS and in a next step for the future system Galileo [DLR EGNOS, ESA EGNOS].
The project EGNOS V3 is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the enhancement of the European augmentation system. The Institute of Communications and Navigation participates as partner within the consortium which is leaded by the project prime Airbus Defence and Space. The evolution project is organized in different phases [IKN EGNOS V3 Phase A].
Within the actual project phase, the Institute is in charge with detail studies about the operational application of a composite clock to synchronize the EGNOS V3 system [Composite Clock]. Furthermore, it supports the consortium with its expertise in the topics ionosphere and timing [Ionosphere].
