Current research activities:

  • Microbial physiological studies under simulated and real spaceflight-relevant conditions
  • Characterization and optimization of biological indicators (BIs) for conventional and novel decontamination approaches (bacterial spores as biosensors)
  • Molecular biological experiments to study DNA repair of microbial model systems (impact of solar UV and galactic cosmic radiation)
  • Microbiological studies supporting human health (investigations of antimicrobial materials and surfaces for ongoing and future spaceflight activities)
