TRAGVIS sensor test at sea

December 6th, 2022
Within the TRAGVIS project, the DLR Institute for the Protection of maritime Infrastructures together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) develops an active optical sensor for vision enhancement at sea. The instrument is based on the Gated-Viewing measurement technique, which enables a suppression of the atmospheric backscatter signal.

DLR testet Technologien zum Schutz maritimer Infrastrukturen

Aktuell steht die Sicherheit von maritimen Infrastrukturen stark im Fokus der Öffentlichkeit. Das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) forscht daran, Hafenanlagen zu schützen und deren Funktionsfähigkeit zu gewährleisten. Am 19. Oktober 2022 führte das DLR am Seehafen in Nordenham dazu eine Technologiedemonstration in Zusammenarbeit mit Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben (BOS) durch. Im Rahmen des Projekts MARLIN wurden verschiedene Szenarien zur Störung eines Hafenbetriebs durchgespielt. Vom DLR entwickelte Technologien und ein daraus generiertes echtzeitfähiges Lagebild des Hafens sollen BOS zukünftig bei Ihrer Arbeit unterstützen, um die Sicherheit von Häfen zu gewährleisten.

DLR supports Safeguarding of Leaning Lighthouse in Bremerhaven

DLR is supporting the city of Bremerhaven and the port operator Bremenports in clarifying the situation at the mole tower in Bremerhaven. The Bremerhaven lighthouse, which is considered one of the city's landmarks, had sagged and then stood askew. Thanks to the capabilities of the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in the field of underwater sensors, images of the quay’s sheet pile walls could be provided, which contributed to the provisional safeguarding of the facility.

Visit from Bremen Senator’s Office for Science and Research at DLR

Dr. Michaela Muylkens, Head of Department 22 - Science Planning and Research Funding at the Bremen Senator’s Office for Science and Research, visited the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures on July 12, 2022. Having taken office recently, Dr. Muylkens visited the institute to gain insights into the research conducted by DLR in Bremerhaven.

Claudia Müller, Coordinator of the Federal Government for Maritime Industry and Tourism, visited the Bremerhaven site of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on June 21, 2022. The MP gained insights into the maritime research activities of DLR, as well as into the institute’s internal and external cooperation in the areas of underwater sensors, situational awareness for maritime security and resilience of maritime infrastructures.

DLR welcomes Researchers to the 2nd MARESEC Workshop in Bremerhaven

On June 20th, 2022, the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures organized the "European Workshop on Maritime Systems Resilience and Security (MARESEC)". The main goals of this scientific event were the exchange between researchers in the field of maritime security and the support for further scientific cooperation. The workshop focused on the topics of resilience, security, maritime technologies as well as ELSA research ("Ethical, Legal and Social Aspects") in the context of maritime systems.

Die Bundespolizei und das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) beabsichtigen, in Zukunft auf dem Gebiet der Maritimen Sicherheitsforschung und der zivilen Sicherheitsforschung noch enger zu kooperieren: Am 30. Juni 2021 loteten die beiden Partner bei einem Besuch der Bundespolizei am DLR-Standort Bremerhaven mögliche Handlungsfelder für eine zukünftig noch engere Zusammenarbeit aus.

DLR investigates munitions disposal areas and archaeological sites in the Kiel Fjord

For the second time, DLR Bremerhaven is accompanying researchers from Kiel University and the German Maritime Museum on a measuring expedition in the Baltic Sea. The "Technology Testing Systems" research group has been welcomed as guests on the research cutter Littorina, which has its home port in Kiel.

November 2020 Das DLR generierte bei Versuchen im Oktober 2020 ein umfängliches Bild einer Gefahrensituation auf dem Wasser. Es soll Rettungskräften, Behörden und anderen Akteuren im Hafen durch zusätzliche Informationen zur aktuellen Lage die Arbeit erleichtern.

	Bundestagsabgeordneter Uwe Schmidt zu Gast beim DLR in Bremerhaven 06. Juli 2020 Herr Uwe Schmidt, Mitglied des Deutschen Bundestages, informierte sich bei einem Besuch des DLR-Instituts für den Schutz maritimer Infrastrukturen am 6. Juli 2020 über den Stand des Institutsaufbaus und über die bereits laufenden Forschungsprojekte.

DLR unterstützt beim Rückbau des Museumsschiffs "Seute Deern"

05. November 2019
Strahlendblauer Himmel über Bremerhaven. Die "Seute Deern", derzeit noch größtes Schiff im Museumshafen der Stadt, liegt ruhig im Wasser und sieht ihrem baldigen Rückbau entgegen. Das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) trägt dazu bei, dass das historische Denkmal nach aktuellen Sicherheitsanforderungen abgebaut werden kann. Am 30. Oktober 2019 war das DLR mit seiner Seekatze, einem 3,50 Meter langen, autonomen U-Boot, vor Ort, um ein Tiefenprofil des Hafenbeckens zu generieren.

DLR und Seenotretter an Nord- und Ostsee kooperieren im Projekt TRAGVIS

Das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) und die Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) werden im Projekt TRAGVIS (Realisierung eines Tragbaren Range-Gated Viewing Systems zur Verbesserung der Sichtbedingungen im maritimen Umfeld) kooperieren. Am 21. August 2019 unterzeichneten Kapitän Udo Helge Fox, Geschäftsführer der Deutschen Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger, und Dr. Dennis Göge, Gründungsdirektor des DLR-Instituts für den Schutz maritimer Infrastrukturen, das Kooperationsabkommen in der Zentrale der Seenotretter in Bremen.

Die erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft im Rahmen des Aufbaus des Instituts für den Schutz maritimer Infrastrukturen stand am 15. März 2019 im Mittelpunkt eines Besuches von Martin Günthner, Senator für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Häfen des Landes Bremen am Standort des DLR in Bremerhaven, bei dem Dr. Dennis Göge, Gründungsdirektor des Instituts, den Bremer Senator in den neuen Räumlichkeiten empfing.

Opening of the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures

On 29 October 2018, the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) was opened in Bremerhaven. Operating against the backdrop of the Energy Transition, digitalisation, innovative mobility and global connectivity, the new institute will focus on the task of protecting vital infrastructures such as ports and offshore wind farms against accidents and terrorist or other attacks. It is the first of its kind in Europe.

Maritime security research at Safety@Sea Week in Singapore

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures made its first appearance as a partner at International Safety@Sea Week. This event was organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and held from 18 to 23 June 2018 in the Southeast Asian metropolis. It relied on a security-oriented approach to tackle the current urgent problems affecting maritime transport.

Almost all future scenarios foresee the region as a living environment, traffic area and economic region, especially in light of resource depletion.

Successful launch of the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures

On 10 November 2016, the German Federal Government’s Budget Committee approved 42 million euro in funding for the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) to set up six new institutes. The concept for one of these new institutes – for the protection of maritime infrastructures – was successfully reviewed by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren; HGF) on 20 April 2017.
