Karsten Tell completed an online PhD exam on August 14, 2020 in front of a committee of professors Matthias Sperl, Stefan Luding and Xiaoping Jia chaired by Professor Barbara Milow, Peidong Yu served as reporter. Karsten Tell worked in the Granular Matter group on elastic waves in granular media. He developed an instrument that was used several times and shall be used again on parabolic flight and sounding rocket. His results represent pioneering work in the field of low pressures in granular media, where conditions of weightlessness let the pressure gradient in the sample disappear and allow for unique measurements.
