This research area looks at the energy supply for propulsion systems and consumers on ships. Potential fuel solutions are investigated with regard to their various storage forms and purchase quantities. The entire supply chain for maritime renewable fuels is taken into account: Starting with import by ship, through import and bunkering infrastructure in port, to on-board storage.
This holistic approach makes it possible to make optimal use of the synergies between the individual process steps. The research also focuses on other energy storage systems such as batteries, which can enable short- and long-term storage of renewable energy.
