The department of Terahertz and Laser Spectroscopy (TLS) has a long track record in instrumentation development for and application of laser-based spectroscopic techniques ranging from the UV to the deep THz spectral range. It is furthermore involved in the operations and science of instruments such as the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) and upcoming missions such as SuperCam on the Mars 2020 “Perseverance” rover. The department is also contributing to the development of space instruments such as the Raman spectrometer for MMX (RAX). The department thereby bridges the gap between state of the art laboratory spectroscopy concepts and operational space instruments. It ensures a rapid and efficient transfer and implementation of advances in novel photonic technologies, quantum technologies and quantum materials into space research.
