LuFo Klima @ ILA 2022

We show technologies for climate-neutral flying at the ILA 2022

At ILA Berlin Air Show the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) is organising the Exhibition section in the ILA Future Lab. Vivid exhibits present key funding programmes of the Federal Ministry, such as the Aeronautics Research Programme (LuFo Klima) and the National Space Programme.

Zero-emission aviation on the horizon

In ILA Future Lab visitors get an insight into innovation areas of the industry. One of the highlights of the exhibition in the field of aviation is a model of a four-seater hydrogen fuel cell powered aircraft. This aircraft is an important technology platform for the development and demonstration of CO2-free propulsion systems in aviation and recently set a new altitude world record for hydrogen-electric aircraft at more than 7,230 feet. The exhibition shows how hydrogen aircraft can be used on short-haul routes in the future. In addition, the public will learn very clearly, for example on a full-size door demonstrator, how lightweight construction, digitalisation, aerodynamics and new materials can reduce the CO2 emissions of aircraft by up to 50 percent. Another highlight is the presentation of how the existing power cables in the aircraft can also be used for data transport. The "Power Line Communication" concept promises a smaller number of cables and thus a reduction in aircraft weight. The multitude of different exhibits at the ILA Future Lab Exhibition show that emission-free aviation by 2050 is fundamentally possible through joint research.
