In addition to connectivity between production systems, user-friendliness will play a key role in the factory of the future within Industry 4.0. Technologies belonging to virtual and augmented reality are used here, at the interface between humans and machines. ‘Virtual technologies for the factory of the future – a contribution to the future project Industry 4.0’ is intended to advance research within this field.
At the DLR Project Management Agency, we use our expertise to advise potential applicants on funding and to organise the review process for project outline submissions. At the moment, we support five associative projects focusing on the R&D areas of: ‘Innovative technologies for virtual product development’ (virtual prototyping), ‘Innovative forms of interaction’, and ‘Development of simulation applications’ (virtual factory). The suitability of these methods and tools for practical application is tested and validated in actual scenarios within the production sector, e.g. directly in a factory setting.
