Humans, things and machines are becoming increasingly networked. So intuitive, user-friendly and usable design – in other words, the usability of products, software and services – is all the more important. It is becoming a key factor for success, especially in promising fields such as Industry 4.0, smart services, IT security, and smart homes.
Until now, technical functionality, reliability, and performance have been considered the most important quality criteria. Increasingly, though, the focus is shifting to the integration of human beings and their needs within the design process. Usability, user-friendliness, and user experience are significant factors that can determine the success of products and services, even those offered by small to medium-sized enterprises.
The ‘Simply intuitive – Usability for SME’ funding initiative builds on this principle, promoting the pooling of experience, methods, and models and establishing regional excellence centres as partners to small and medium-sized enterprises. ‘Simply intuitive’ is one of three funding initiatives within ‘SME Digital’ that our experts are implementing on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
