Europe is on its way to becoming the world’s most dynamic knowledge-based economic area. The EU funding system particularly encourages companies participating in European research activities. A strong focus is placed on small to medium-sized enterprises (SME). Approximately 80 billion euro are available for disbursement by 2020 within the current framework programme for research and innovation (Horizon 2020). Here, transnational research associations enjoy particular attention, as does supporting individual scientists and SMEs. In addition, a larger number of demonstration and pilot projects are also receiving support. The programme includes the areas of ‘scientific excellence’, ‘leading role in industry’ and ‘social challenges’, and covers the entire spectrum, from basic research to applied research and development, as well as innovative projects.
The EU Office of the German Federal Government has been part of the DLR Projektträger since 1994. The EU Office and the National Contact Points (NCP) provide crucial support to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in negotiations with European partners of the Horizon 2020 initiative. Parties engaged in research can obtain all necessary information on relevant funding measures from our experts in the EU office. We also provide advice on how to structure project forms and instruments, applications and review procedures, or contractual terms. Twelve of the 22 National Contact Points are integrated within the DLR Projektträger, and an additional three are partners. Coordination of all activities relating to National Contact Nodes in Germany takes place at the DLR Projektträger headquarters.
