If it wishes to compete internationally, Europe needs to sharpen its profile in science and research: a common European front made up of all member states is an outstanding way to increase the attractiveness, excellence and competitiveness of the European Union. To achieve this, it is necessary to promote cooperation between the member states. It is equally important to ensure mutual coordination and the streamlining of programmes and measures undertaken by each member. This will be built upon a joint research and funding framework.
At the DLR Project Management Agency, we support the German Federal Government in its strategic efforts to shape the European Research Area from a national perspective. Here, we take on tasks related to joint programme planning and contribute to the fields of knowledge transfer and international cooperation.
In addition, we are active partners within the European Research Area. Funded by the European Framework Programme Horizon 2020, the DLR Project Management Agency participates in a large number of thematic and internationally focused coordination measures, hence providing a substantial contribution to the development of research priorities on a European and international level – for example by developing joint strategies, work programmes, tender procedures or assessment processes. In this area, we work with other partners to help forge connections between government, industry and science – in Europe and worldwide. For instance, the ERA-NET initiative ‘ERAfrica’ provides a coordinated, transnational support framework for European scientists seeking to conduct joint projects with partners from Africa on nutritional safety, healthcare, or climate change. In these cases, we offer administrative support, providing internationally recognised tools for applications, evaluations and funding decisions.
