The DLR Quality Prize was awarded for the first time on the occasion of the Quality Conference on September 30, 2003.

The following criteria were the basis for the selection of the award-winners: 

• commitment to excellence with respect to systematic quality assurance and quality management to the advantage of DLR;
  
• specific merits with respect to introduction and consistent implementation of quality management within their department and within their areas of responsibility with regard to quality improvement of both DLR’s products and services.

• Prof Dr.-Ing. W. Koschel, Director of Institute for Space Propulsion
• Mr W. Zwick, Kayser-Threde GmbH INC, Munich.
