The next German astronaut of the European Space Agency ESA, Matthias Maurer, is expected to launch into space at the end of October 2021. He will spend around six months conducting numerous experiments together with his colleagues on the ISS space station.
Matthias Maurer's ISS mission will last six months. During this time, he will supervise and carry out 36 German and more than 100 international experiments. Most of the German experiments will be conducted in the European Columbus research laboratory on the ISS. These will range from fundamental research to application-oriented science in fields such as life sciences, materials science, physics, biology, medicine and Earth observation.
