On-orbit manufacturing is an efficient way to provide spares for space missions. Additive manufacturing technologies have great potential to be the candidate solution for its flexibility. Space Additive Manufacturing Experiments (SAME) are a series of tests of materials, rapid prototyping techniques and equipment that could be used in future space missions organized by CSU. SAME-01 will be implemented on the DLR parabolic flight.
The experiment SAME-01 has two main objectives: Firstly, SAME-01 will study the characteristics of two different materials, polymers and carbon-fiber reinforced polymers, during manufacturing process in microgravity. Secondly, SAME-01 will collect data of parameters of the Fused Depositon Modeling process in microgravity.
