Kleinsatelliten - große Zukunft für kleine Orbiter

Kleinsatelliten gelten als einer der wesentlichen Motoren des dynamischen Zukunftsmarkts Raumfahrt: Laut Studien werden im Zeitraum 2021 bis 2030 schätzungsweise über 15.000 Satelliten ins All gebracht. Rund 90 Prozent davon werden Kleinsatelliten sein.

On Wednesday, 15 March 2023 at 01:30 CET, the 27th Commercial Resupply Service mission lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Falcon 9 rocket is also carrying the four experiments of the Überflieger 2 competition of the German Space Agency at DLR and the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA).

Following their historical journey around the Moon as part of NASA's Artemis I mission, the radiation-measuring mannequins, Helga and Zohar, are back in Cologne. On 9 March 2023, the two female astronaut phantoms were presented to the media by DLR.

Wa­ter-rich as­ter­oids came from far out­side the as­ter­oid belt

New infrared measurements performed using a telescope on Hawaii have now led to the identification of a previously unknown class of asteroids. Researchers from the German Aerospace Center are part of an international team that was able to identify these planetesimals using infrared spectroscopy.

Land sur­face has been dis­placed by up to six me­tres

Satellite images have revealed how the land has shifted as a result of the severe earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. According to an analysis by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), this shift amounts to up to six metres in some places.

The fu­ture of small satel­lite trans­fer or­bits


10 February 2023
DLR is currently working with UARX Space to develop a specialised spacecraft that will transport multiple satellites to different desired orbits after separation from the launch vehicle. DLR is providing a radio platform called Generic Software Defined Radio (GSDR), which is used to communicate with the ground station.
