EnMAP - Die erste deutsche Hyperspektral-Satellitenmission

TanDEM-X
The TanDEM-X mission is based on two nearly identical earth observation satellites, TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X. Both are equipped with a powerful modern radar system. With its two antennas, the satellite pair will be the first ever capable of generating a three-dimensional elevation model of the entire surface of the earth.

TerraSAR-X
TerraSAR-X is a new German radar satellite designed for Earth observation. The project was the first to be implemented by a public-private partnership in which both parties contribute towards financing the system.

RapidEye
The RapidEye satellite project marks the transition to a new level of quality in earth exploration data services. The daily availability of extremely sharp high-resolution images from space will open up a commercial market of its own. For the first time, this has induced a private German company to invest large sums in a space project.

GRACE - Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment
The US-German mini-satellite mission GRACE will help scientists develop a new model of the Earth’s gravitational field with unprecedented accuracy. The following questions will be addressed: Are the polar ice-caps melting? Are sea levels rising? Are we likely to see major flood events? Why do warm ocean currents like the gulf stream reach so high up into the Earth’s northern hemisphere, and what role does the influence of gravitation play in that context?

CHAMP - A geoscience mission to "Planet Earth"
Conceived at the Potsdam GeoResearch Centre, CHAMP is a research satellite which, operating from a near-Earth orbit, made important contributions towards the exploration of the Earth’s magnetic and gravitational field as well as for atmospheric physics. It provided reference data of hitherto unattained accuracy for geodesy, new insights in geophysics and oceanography, and contributions to climate research.

BIRD - The first satellite for spotting forest fires
From the ground, forest fires are often discovered very late. However, they can be spotted much earlier from the air or even from space. DLR is testing the technologies of such an early warning system with BIRD (bi-spectral infra-red detection), a small satellite that was successfully launched from India on 22 October 2001.
