Following the arrival in the ISS of the Kontur-2 joystick and its successful commissioning on August 1, the Kontur-2 project team is now looking forward to the first telepresence experiments by the cosmonauts on early Tuesday evening. In December 2014, the cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Gennadi Padalka and Sergei Volkov had practiced manipulating the joystick and also successfully controlled Justin on site at the institute in Oberpfaffenhofen. The unique feature of Kontur-2 is its telemanipulated remote control. The cosmonaut on the ISS can control the robot’s position in Oberpfaffenhofen while feeling the forces that occur when the robot interacts with its surroundings as if he were present on site.
