Institute Development and Central Management Department
The department supports the research activities of the institute in the fields of organisation management, controlling, personnel administration, public relations, and IT and enables smoothly running organisational and administrative procedures.
With about 200 permanent employees and about 70 student assistants, the institute deals with a huge number of projects and issues.
This diversity requires systematic strategic as well as operative planning and coordination. Thus, a newly established project management office gives advice and support for all projects from planning and application to implementation through to completion, and coordinates the different projects. Elaborate controlling ensures stable budgetary accounting in the long term and target-oriented use of funds which are mostly provided by public authorities. Systematic staff planning is closely linked to these measures.
Moreover, the department is in charge of the institute´s public relations in close cooperation with the DLR communication department, attends to the press and visiting groups, and ensures current information on the Internet.
Lastly, the IT team of the institute is part of the department, attending and further developing the complex computer and network structure of the research laboratories and robot systems.
