Hovitron

The Hovitron project aims to synthesise and validate holographic visual feedback in Head Mounted Displays (HMDs) for robotic teleoperation from recorded images of the robot environment.

Duration: 2020-06-01 until 2022-05-31
Project partners: • ULB
• Creal SA
• DLR
• UPM
Website: www.hovitron.eu
Fields of application:

• teleoperation for space exploration and maintenance in space
• tele-surgery and tele-healthcare assistance

Funding: EU Horizon 2020, grant agreement no. 951989

Project details

Holographic visual feedback enables the teleoperator to focus his gaze (eye accommodation) on an object in a natural way without having to take new images or adjust the viewing direction. After an initial VR study on the benefits of light-field displays, a light-field video pipeline will be developed to synthesize the visual feedback from light-field and conventional cameras positioned in an array around the robot's working environment.
