The project Factory of the Future – Extended (FoF-X) is the continuation of the DLR cross-program initiative for the use of intelligent robot systems in the digitalized production of the future.
Project details
The project Factory of the Future – Extended (FoF-X) is the continuation of the DLR's cross-program initiative for the use of intelligent robot systems in the digitalized production of the future, which was launched 4 years ago. The approach already developed in the first project phase (2018-2021), consisting of reconfigurable robot systems, human-robot collaboration, autonomous execution of production processes, and digital twins of systems and products that allow intelligent and flexible control, has been confirmed as trend-setting in recent years and is now also being pursued in FoF-X collaboratively by 7 DLR institutes.
The core application field of FoF-X's research and development activities continues to be in the manufacturing sector, in particular in industrial assembly and in lightweight construction applications in the aerospace environment. New groundbreaking accents will also be set by researching methods in the field of artificial intelligence. In this context, fields of application are also to be explored which require new and unconventional solutions due to their special boundary conditions.
